behaviors.
To participate credibly in sports and
games, one should:
Know and abide by the
rules: Understanding the rules of the game is essential to
participate in a credible manner. It is important to learn the rules, follow
them, and respect the decisions made by the officials.
Play fair:
Playing fair means refraining from cheating or using any unfair means to gain
an advantage over the opponent. This includes avoiding actions such as
intentionally fouling, diving, or pretending to be injured.
Respect the opponent:
Treating the opponent with respect is an important aspect of credible
participation. It is essential to avoid verbal or physical abuse and maintain a
positive attitude towards the opponent, even when things do not go as planned.
Display good
sportsmanship: Good sportsmanship involves showing
respect towards the opponent, officials, and the game itself. It includes
displaying grace in both victory and defeat, accepting the outcome with
humility and dignity.
Maintain physical fitness:
Maintaining physical fitness is essential to participate credibly in sports and
games. It involves keeping the body in good shape through regular exercise and
proper nutrition.

Games and sports play an
important role in the physical, mental, and social development of individuals.
Here are some of the key reasons why games and sports are important:
1.Physical health:
Regular participation in games and sports can help maintain physical fitness,
improve stamina, and reduce the risk of developing health conditions such as
obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.
2. Mental health:
Games and sports can have a positive impact on mental health by reducing
stress, anxiety, and depression. They also promote the release of endorphins,
which are natural mood-boosting chemicals in the brain.

Participating in games and sports provides opportunities for socialization and

1.2. Report on Games and
Sports Meet
As a part of curriculum Adi Sankara Training College, Kalady
organised sports meet for B.Ed students on 20th & 21st
March 2023. Its objective was to develop in the students a spiriting spirit, a
venue to display physical enhancement and gain hands on experience of
organising a sports day at a school in future.
The students were divided
into four groups with exciting and energetic names for each group: Sapphire, Ruby,
Topaz and Emerald. Each group represented with a colour of blue, red, white, and
Green respectively with flags and placards.
The sports meet had both
indoor and outdoor games and track events. The indoor games include badminton,
chess, and carrom board conducted two weeks before the track events. For
outdoor games, the first years made the necessary arrangements a day before, by
cleaning the ground, marked the tracks and all required things for the sports
meet with the help of Ramesh sir, our Physical Trainer and student sports secretary
Sivaprasad M.
The sports meet was started
on 20th Monday at 2.00 p.m. at our college ground, where the
students assembled in time. The event was started with Shot Put and Long Jump, which
ended at 4 pm. In the next day we started the event at 8.00 am with 100 metre races,
which was followed by an inaugural session
begins with a march past parade at 9 am.
The inauguration ceremony started at 9.15 am with flag hoisting by the chief guest Sri. Arjun Balakrishnan, Santhosh Trophy Kerala player. This was followed by welcome speech by our college union chairperson Amrutha Maria and our principal N. K Arjunan sir gave the presidential address. The inaugural address by the Chief guest, his words of wisdom from his own personal life were inspiring and specifying the importance of physical health and sports activities which help in maintaining a good mental health too and it set the tone for the day. Praseetha v., the vice principal, gave the felicitation. Ramesh sir declared the sports day open, he called the team captains of each group for taking the oath, and Sivaprasad M. recited the oath to all. Muhammed Adhanan P delivered the vote of thanks.
The next sports items started at 10 am with event items of 100 m, 200 m,
400 m race, relay, discus throw, walking for both the batches respectively.
Maximum participation was compulsory for any three events. All the events
finished off the most energetic and cheered with happiness.
Credible
participation in games and sports report
Sports day is an event with colours and beautiful moments of excitement. Sports have an unavoidable role in shaping a fit and healthy body. A teacher trainee should need experience in conducting sports meet, hence I actively participated in the sports meet. I participated in games of Chess, 400 m race, shot put and disc throw.
Prize: I got only second prize in 400 m race. However, it was an exciting day for me, my mind is filled with lots of nostalgic memories of the event and an educational day for me. It highlighted the importance of the sports and paved a sporting spirit in me as a future teacher.

Volleyball
Volleyball
is a popular team sport played around the world. It was invented in 1895 by
William G. Morgan, a YMCA physical education director in Holyoke,
Massachusetts, USA. The game is played with two teams, each consisting of six
players, on a court divided by a net. The objective of the game is to send the
ball over the net and to ground it on the opponent's court, and to prevent the
same effort by the opponent.
The game
is characterized by its fast pace, quick reflexes, and team coordination.
Volleyball requires a combination of physical and mental skills, including
strength, agility, endurance, speed, accuracy, and strategy.
There are
several variations of volleyball, including indoor volleyball, beach
volleyball, sitting volleyball for people with disabilities, and grass
volleyball. Volleyball is also an Olympic sport, and it is played at both the
amateur and professional levels.
Dimensions of the Court:
The court is further divided into three sections: the front row, the
back row, and the serving area. The front row is the area closest to the net,
and the back row is the area furthest from the net. The serving area is a
rectangular box located behind the end line.
Basic Rules and Regulations:
Serve: The game begins with a serve, which
is executed by a player from behind the end line of their court. The ball must
be hit over the net and into the opponent's court, and the player must not step
on or over the end line until after the ball is served.
Rally: After the serve, the game enters into
a rally. The ball is played back and forth between the two teams, with each
team allowed up to three touches to get the ball over the net.
Scoring: In volleyball, points are awarded to
a team when they successfully win a rally by either winning the rally itself or
the other team making a fault. The first team to reach 25 points and have a
two-point lead over their opponent wins the set. In some cases, a match may be
played as the best of five sets, and the fifth set may be played up to 15
points with a two-point lead required to win.
Rotation: Volleyball has a rotation system in
which players rotate positions on the court after each side out. The player who
served the ball in the previous rally rotates to the back row, and the other
players move to the next position.
Faults: There are several types of faults in
volleyball, including touching the net, crossing the centreline, carrying the
ball, and committing a foot fault. If a fault occurs, the opposing team is
awarded a point.
Fouls of volleyball:
Don't touch the net: When the ball is
in play, players should not touch the net. If a player makes contact with the
net during play, the other team gets a point and the serve.
Don't carry the ball: In volleyball,
the ball should be hit, not carried or held. Players should not let the ball
come to rest in their hands or arms.
Don't step over the center line:
During play, players should not step over the center line on the court. This
line marks the boundary between the two halves of the court and crossing it is
considered a violation.
Don't commit a foot fault: When
serving, the player's foot must not touch or go over the end line or side-line
before contact with the ball. This is called a foot fault and results in the
serve being called out.
Don't touch the ball more than three
times: In most cases, a team is allowed to touch the ball a maximum of three
times before it must be sent over the net. If a team touches the ball more than
three times, the other team gets a point.
Don't hit the ball out of bounds: If
the ball lands outside the boundary lines, it is considered out of bounds and
the other team gets a point.

are typically around 65-67 cm (25.6-26.4 inches) in circumference and weigh
between 260-280 grams (9.2-9.9 ounces). The size and weight of the ball can
vary slightly depending on the level of play and age group.
Material: Volleyball
balls are typically made of synthetic leather or composite leather. These
materials are durable and provide good grip, making them ideal for the sport.
Color: The standard color
of a volleyball ball is usually a combination of white, yellow and blue,
although some balls may be designed with different colors or patterns.
Panels: Volleyball balls
typically have 18 panels that are sewn together. The panels are designed to
create a consistent shape and balance for the ball.
Shuttle badminton
Badminton is a popular
racquet sport played around the world. It originated in India and was
introduced to England in the 19th century, where it became a popular pastime.
Shuttle badminton, also known as simply "badminton," is played with a
shuttlecock, which is a feathered projectile that is hit back and forth over a
net by two or four players.
The objective of the game
is to hit the shuttlecock in such a way that the opponent is unable to return
it over the net. Players score points when their opponent is unable to return
the shuttlecock, or when their opponent hits the shuttlecock out of bounds. The
game is typically played on a rectangular court with a net dividing the playing
area.
Badminton requires a

hand-eye coordination, and strategic thinking. The game can be played at both

Rules and regulations of shuttle
badminton:
Scoring: A player or team scores a point when
the shuttlecock lands on the opponent's court, and the opponent fails to hit it
back over the net. The first player or team to reach 21 points with a two-point
lead wins the game. In case of a 20-20 tie, the game continues until one player
or team leads by two points.
Serving: The game starts with a serve, which
is done from the right-hand service court. The server must hit the shuttlecock
below the waist and diagonally to the opponent's service court. The serve must
cross the net and land within the opponent's service court. If the server fails
to do so, a point is awarded to the opponent.
Faults: A fault is any violation of the
rules. Some of the common faults include hitting the shuttlecock outside the
court boundaries, touching the net with the racket or body, and making contact
with the shuttlecock twice. A fault results in a point for the opponent.
Lets: A let is called when the shuttlecock
hits the net during the serve and lands within the opponent's court, or when
there is any hindrance during the play. In case of a let, the point is replayed.
Doubles Play: In doubles play, each team has two players, and the players take turns serving and receiving. The players on the same team must take turns hitting the shuttlecock, and the shuttlecock must cross the net before being hit by the opponent.
