EDU 404.1 Community citizenship training
camp
1.0. Introduction
A community citizenship
training camp for future teachers is an educational program designed to prepare
individuals for careers in teaching while also developing their leadership,
communication, and community engagement skills. The camp typically offers a range
of activities and workshops focused on topics such as teaching techniques,
classroom management, cultural sensitivity, and service learning.
The goal of the camp is
to provide aspiring teachers with a well-rounded education that not only
prepares them to teach in a classroom but also equips them with the tools and
knowledge needed to be effective community leaders. By developing strong leadership
and communication skills, future teachers can work collaboratively with their
colleagues, parents, and community members to create positive change in their
schools and neighborhoods.
In addition to classroom
instruction, a community citizenship training camp for future teachers may also
include outdoor education and team-building activities, guest speakers from the
education field, and opportunities for professional development.
In short, a community citizenship training camp for future teachers can provide a comprehensive and immersive learning experience that prepares individuals for a rewarding career in teaching while also instilling a strong sense of civic responsibility and community engagement.

‘The
Panchabootha-verukal thedi…’ a camp, which is a part of the five-day community
living camp prescribed in the B. Ed curriculum of MG University, commenced on
March 6, 2023, held at Adi Shankara Training College, Kalady. In preparation
for the camp, an online class titled "How to Organize a Camp" was
conducted on February 23, 2023, by Asst. Prof. Jayakrishnan of National College
of Teacher Education in Vengola.
Before the start of the
camp, a group discussion was held to select the camp leader, finance
coordinator, food coordinator, entertainment coordinator, camp news
coordinator, and DE coordinator, all of whom would work under the leadership of
the camp coordinator, Mr. Rajesh MP. The students were then divided into groups,
and group leaders were appointed.
After much deliberation,
it was decided that the camp would be conducted from the 6th to the 10th of
March. To ensure smooth functioning of the camp, five duty committees, namely
the Food Committee, Program Committee, Cultural Program Committee, Cleaning
Committee, and Discipline Committee, were formed for each of the five days, and
specific duties were assigned to each group.
On March 4, 2023, the
Vice Principal of Adi Shankara Training College, Mrs. Praseetha V., named the
five-day camp "Panchabhuta- In Search of Roots." Each of the five
days was dedicated to one of the five elements, Bhumi, Jala, Vayu, Akasha, and
Agni. Later, official letters were sent to various departments informing them
that a five-day camp would be held in the college.
Prior to the start of the
five-day camp, the students prepared the camp schedule under the guidance of
the teachers, with a total of 11 informative sessions being organized over the
course of the five days.

1.5.5.3. Reflection of the day
1.6. Overall Reflection
Community
living camps can be a valuable experience for individuals to develop social
skills, build friendships, and learn to work together towards common goals.
Living in close proximity to others for an extended period can create a sense
of camaraderie and foster a strong sense of community. It can also provide
opportunities to learn about different cultures, lifestyles, and perspectives.
During the camp,
participants may engage in various activities such as team-building exercises,
outdoor adventures, and community service projects. These experiences can help
individuals develop their leadership skills, enhance their problem-solving
abilities, and build self-confidence.
Living in a community can
also provide a unique opportunity to disconnect from technology and the
distractions of daily life. This can help individuals focus on building
relationships, being present in the moment, and developing a deeper sense of
self-awareness.
Our camp, that had all the qualities as mentioned above that one would expect from a co-habitation camp. What a beautiful five days when 98 students from diverse mindsets and backgrounds came together under one umbrella. Days that can be cherished in the memories that bring so much joy to all...
Through this five-day community living camp, we learned to do things with maturity and precision, to keep everyone together, and to understand each other. As well as an awareness of what is happening around and the ability to cope and react to it earned through this camp.
Overall, this community
living camp was a transformative experience for me, providing me with the skills, knowledge, and personal growth needed to thrive in today's
complex and interconnected world.
